Choosing the perfect wedding dress

Choosing your wedding dress can be the most exciting and daunting part of your wedding planning.  You want to look amazing, wow your guest and not forgetting your groom. Its your day so make the most of it!

Start looking through bridal magazines, online photos to give yourself an idea of what you are looking for.  Once you start browsing, you’ll start to form a portfolio of your ideal style.  Cut out any photos, take or download photos on your phone, keep a little folder going as its so easy to forget where you saw that lovely photo.  I call it bride brain! your brain is so overloaded with new information to take in, kind of the same thing as baby brain.

Once you have a good idea of what you are after, set yourself a budget, then and extra emergency budget just in case you completely fall in love with your dream dress.

To view and try on bridal dresses, you need to make an appointment.  The appointment is usually an hour to an hour and half.  Popular bridal shops can be really booked up in advance so try and book an appointment in plenty of time.  Take someone with you if you can for a second opinion, someone you know who will be honest and basically a second pair or eyes for you.

If you are going to a bridal shop where you haven’t seen the range, the assistant will be happy to help you with what you are looking for.  Show her as many photos as you can.  They can easily find a selection for you to try on for size.

You may have found the dream dress and found a stockist which is easy as you can then quote to them the name of the dress and all dresses similar.  I was given the advice from a friend not to go for something just because its really in trend.  Your photos are timeless remember

One thing I did find, was the dresses at first I fell in love with, really didn’t do anything for me.  Once I tried them I just looked at myself in the mirror and was disappointed.  If this happens to you, try not to be disheartened, at least you have tried them on, that style didn’t suit you so try something else.  You will be really surprised what you might go for and what flatters you the most!  When I had my bridal appointment, I was adamant that I wasn’t going to have a veil, but once I found the dress for me, I ended up having a veil to the ground!

If you don’t find something, don’t panic buy into choosing something that day, having the ‘that will do’ attitude.  Just because you have an appointment at that shop, doesn’t mean you have to choose something from there.  Just make another appointment at another shop and start hunting with fresh eyes.  You might even go back to your original shop!

Once you have found your dream dress, take a photo of you wearing as you’ll be hunting for matching jewellery and tierra headpiece and if you’re anything like me,  you’ll get bride brain and forget what it exactly looks like!

Happy hunting.
